George Corbett

Dr George Corbett is Lecturer in Theology, Imagination and the Arts. He trained as a musician at Chetham’s School of Music, and then read English literature (B.A.), European literature and culture (M.Phil.), and wrote a doctorate on Dante (Ph.D.) at the University of Cambridge. He also studied at the University of Pisa (Scuola Normale Superiore) and in Rome. Prior to his appointment at St Andrews, he was a Junior Research Fellow at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Dr Corbett specialises in theology and the arts (across all periods), medieval theology (with a focus on Dante), and systematic theology (with a focus on Aquinas and his enduring influence in Catholic, Orthodox and Reformed traditions).

He is the author of Dante and Epicurus: A Dualistic Vision of Secular and Spiritual Fulfilment (Oxford: Legenda and MHRA, 2013), and is currently working on a second book, Dante’s Christian Ethics. He is the co-editor of Vertical Readings in Dante’s Comedy, 3 vols (Cambridge: Open Book Publishers, 2015-17), an interdisciplinary collaboration by thirty-four scholars on an innovative reappraisal of the whole poem. He has also published on Aquinas’s systematic theology and its enduring influence. A list of recent publications is available here.
